    Weekly Meetings.

    Post by Skybane Zero on Sat Nov 19, 2011 5:34 pm

    Weekly Meetings - Leonel came up with this interesting idea a few days back, and I think it would be a good thing to discuss and consider.
    Up until now, it seems like we've all been either a) working on things for this Project on our own, or b) not working at all because we haven't been assigned any work. Naturally, this has resulted in a slowdown in progress lately, as the developers who aren't working are becoming inactive (since they likely think there's no work needing to be done), while the ones that are are swamped with too much work to complete on their own. Of course, this is not at all how a team should operating.

    Weekly meetings, I think, would help all developers constantly stay on the same page, as well as ensuring that members are frequently active and receive equal work distribution. Personally, I think they would also make us feel more united as a developement team.

    If we decide to go through with these meetings every week, though, there are a couple things we'll need to consider first. Perhaps the most important are a convenient date and time to hold them - we want to ensure that as many members as possible will be able to attend, after all.
    Leonel suggested Sunday afternoon, which sounds reasonable to me, but I think it would be best to hold that decision to a poll nonetheless (just in case some would like to compromise).

    We'll also need to consider the site where the meetings will be held.

    Voice your opinions below and/or in the poll.

    I'm busy with my University and with huge family problems. (Mostly concerning my father)

    The good news is that I'll be finishing with the second semester of University in two weeks. This means 4 entire months of freedom to work! Excited

    Anytime but Sunday morning and supper time (6 to 8ish EST) is probably good for me.

    Sunday would be a good choise, but we still need the right time corridor in order to avoid conflicts with the real life.

    Since I live in Germany and most of you in America we will have a time difference of 6-8 hours.
    For example on my side I have 7 pm, while on your side you would have 1 pm.

    Sunday afternoon sounds possible for me. Sorry for the absence, btw, a friend of mine joined the navy, had to send him off proper.

    ...Then Skyrim came out.

    Places where we could hold the meetings;

    'iScribble';
    Pros: Real time whiteboard to scribble ideas
    Cons: You need to use a non-mainstream email

    IRC;
    Pros: Simple and fast.
    Cons: No scribbling, and we would have to pay for a channel I believe.

    'xat';
    Pros: No registration needed, and there is a rudimentary whiteboard.
    Cons: Not much other than lots of ads and flash interface.

    'Skype';
    Pros: Voice-chat.
    Cons: Language barrier for some.

    'Teamviewer';
    Pros; Free desktop 'sharing' app. Lots of possibilities for showing off work, etc. Voicechat.
    Cons; At this point we may not need something so advanced.

    'Steam';
    Pros: Calendar, In-game chat, voicechat.
    Cons: Needs registration and download.

    -------
    TeamSpeak/Ventrilo;
    These would be discarded IMO since we would have to pay monthly for the server.
    -------
    There may be other options though..
    -------

    It may be a good idea to have a 'rollcall' of sorts to measure activity. Weekly or Monthly maybe.

    10pm GMT 0 may be good.

    It would be around 3pm for the US and around 6pm for south america.

    Thanks for posting our options for the site, Leonel. I think we have the date under our belts now (Sunday generally seems to work the best for everyone), so I'll switch the poll to this.
    Edit: Or not. Apparently, I can't edit a poll, hmm...

    Oh well. Anyway, I say Skype. We can always avoid voice-chats and just stick to regular text-chats if we need to.

    iScribble is something that anyone can get into, and I've never had to use a non-free e-mail address to register for an iScribble account. If that doesn't work for everyone, though, it wouldn't hurt to use Skype.

    What I meant is that it wouldn't let me register with either Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo Mail. I had to create an account in some obscure mail site to be able to register. Maybe it wasn't like this before or it's not for some countries.

    Either Skype or iScribble would be ideal, though we may need to make a private channel on iScribble as things get more developed.
